Our New Bishop (to be)

Today, I went to Huddersfield University to meet our newly appointed bishop (to be) at the Jo Cox More in Common Centre.  This morning at 10am, Downing Street announced that The Revd Canon Smitha Prasadam will take up the role of Bishop of Huddersfield later in the year.  She is currently Chaplain of St Albans, Copenhagen.  She explained that this means she is the only Anglican vicar in the whole of Denmark.  It makes our parish from the top of…

My name is Lindsey Barber and I am your new curate.  I was ordained priest in June 2022.  I currently live at Coley with my husband Andrew,  his daughter Frankie and our two dogs, Emmi, the ageing border collie, and Thor, the little bulldog.   I have an adult son, Ewan.  My daughter, Olivia is married to Kane and they have a daughter, Harriet who is 18 months old.   Both Ewan and Olivia live in Pontefract, which is where I’m…

Youth Group Christmas

We’ve had a lot of fun at Youth Group in the Autumn term. We finished with a Christmas party at which David made us play the silliest of games – I can remember eating Dairy Milk with a knife and fork when I was a kid! For the last Youth Group of 2022 we decided to go ten pin bowling! What a fun night that was. And it is always entertaining to see the smallest kids try to eat the…

The Christmas Fair

December has seen us have a very busy Advent at Holy Nativity. The church has become a constant hive of activity for the whole month! We began with season with The Christmas Fair at which the whole community came together to begin the preparations for Christmas. We were really pleased to be able to jointly organise the fair with Ash green Primary School. For the last couple of years it hasn’t been possible for people to get together to celebrate…

Thank You Illingworth Cricket Club

A huge thank you to Illingworth Cricket Club who have very kindly organised a food collection for Holy Nativity’s Community Drop-In.  It came as a wonderful surprise when Libby arrived at 9am on Sunday morning to drop off the bags of food before people arrived for the service. Libby works at Stay and Play every Thursday at Holy Nativity and heard about the Drop-In through Michelle.  This is the wonderful community spirit we have in North Halifax.  All of these…

Keep Ringing that Bell!

Dear Friends, Ten years ago today, Ruth and I didn’t really know what to expect for the future.  We packed up our lives and our cat came to live in our new house which people referred to as “the vicarage”.  Hanging in the air was the fresh smell of paint and new carpet as we awaited the arrival of my friends and family.  Then Bishop Tony came and joined us at Holy Nativity to join us with the community by…

Warm Space: Community Drop-In Update

Hi everyone, Extended Opening:  1pm – 4pm Just a quick note to update you about the Community Drop-In here at Holy Nativity.  We are now in a position to open up from 1pm-4pm on Monday afternoons as a warm space.  All of the usual things you can expect are the same as before but we will be open longer.  We’re putting the heating on all afternoon so that people in the community have somewhere to come and have free tea,…

Holy Nativity and Ash Green Christmas Fair

The clocks have gone back, everything is dark and like all vicars, I have to start thinking about Christmas.  One of the questions we were asked was whether there would be a Christmas Fair this year.  The last time a Christmas Fair was held in Mixenden was 2019 and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then.  A few weeks ago I met with Mr Sheppard and we both agreed that we want our community to have…

Maundy Thursday and Good Friday

It has been a really eventful couple of days! Once the traditional foot washing service for Maundy Thursday had concluded, Holy Nativity’s Youth Group kept the overnight vigil with a sleepover. Maundy Thursday is all about remembering the last supper so they began by baking bread for the vigil. Millions of candles were set up on the high altar with the loaf and then we were keeping watch all through the night. Later, a camp fire and toasted marshmallows kept…
