Fun Day at Holy Nativity!

This Sunday, Holy Nativity held a Fun Day for the whole community.  From face painting to axe throwing there was something for everyone!  Throughout the day there were all sorts of fun and games going on.  One of the highlights was the adults wheelbarrow race! St Mary’s Community Shop Closure

For 16 years, St Mary’s Community Shop has served the people of Illingworth as a place of sanctuary and will finally close their doors on the 3rd of July.  In 2002 the council gave the keys to a small shop front on Turner Avenue South to the community at St Mary’s Church which later became the Parish of Mixenden and Illingworth.  Pat and Bob Highley with the help of Anne Roberts and Cheryll Earnshaw have volunteered their time each week…

Yvonne’s Ordination and First Eucharist

It has been a wonderful weekend in the life of Holy Nativity as we have celebrated with Yvonne as she was ordained priest. On Saturday at Huddersfield Parish church Yvonne was ordained by Right Reverend Jonathan Gibbs, the bishop of Huddersfield.  It was a wonderful service in which he placed his hands on her head and prayed for her. Lunch Club Christmas. #GodWithUs

Holy Nativity’s lunch club had a fantastic Christmas Meal on Tuesday. The morning began with a Christmas communion service with carols. Then the room became a hive of activity as other people began arriving for Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings! To start the festivities, children from Year 1 and 2 at Ash Green came to sing a selection of carols and songs for everyone! Making Friends over a Curry

On Wednesday afternoon we had a fantastic time as Samina, Shebana, Shamim and Rabia came to Holy Nativity to show more than twenty of us how to make traditional homemade curry. The Halifax Central Initiative staff came to Holy Nativity with all of the ingredients and expertise to produce a cheap and amazing home cooked meal. Welcoming the New Curate!

On Saturday we went to Yvonne’s ordination at Bradford Cathedral. Yvonne is the new curate at Holy Nativity Church.   Revd Yvonne Hagan was ordained deacon by the Bishop of Leeds. Yvonne has come from Christ Church Pellon where she has been worshipping for many years.  She has been training for ordination for three years.  As well as working part time in the parish of Mixenden and Illingworth she will continue to work for Calderdale Council in her role as recycling…

We Are the Diocese of Leeds

Since the formation of the diocese of Leeds over two years ago, there has been a lot of work going on to bring three organisations together.  However, there is a lot of hard work that has been done in the meantime “on the ground”.  The diocese have just released this video giving a brief snapshot of some of the good work and diversity that is being done here in West Yorkshire!

More Celebrations for the Queen’s Birthday!

On Sunday we continues the celebrations of the Queen’s birthday with a big all age service!  The church was set out with tables around which we worshipped.  30th Holy Nativity Scouts began the service by processing the flags as we sang Praise is Rising.  During the service they made a large gold throne as we discussed what it means for God to be seated on the throne. Celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday

Today Holy Nativity’s Over 50’s and Disabled Lunch Club celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with Style! The day’s festivities began at 11am with the communion service.  Revd Robb led the service and talked about the Queen’s faith and how it has been instrumental in her life.  He then talked about the role of God as king and how the whole of humanity is welcomed into His presence.
